The Lord of the Rings is an epic fantasy written by J.R.R Tolkien, set in the fictional world of middle earth. Its mythos is directly linked to the fictional languages; and the cultures reflect their development through both. It is a sequel to “The Hobbit” a children’s book about adventure, and it was intended to be released as one volume along with The Silmarillion, but for economic reasons it was split into three volumes: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of The King, published in 1955 and The Silmarillion wouldn’t be released until 1977.

I probably watched the third movie when I was about 5 years old; I have no memory of this but my older brother said that he convinced our parents to take us to the theater when The Return of the King movie was released. As I grew up, the movie trilogy would be aired on channel 5 constantly, about twice a year I think, and since I hung out with my older brother a lot I definitely sat and watched it with him at some point. Every time they aired I would watch them again, and I'm not very sure when was the first time I watched them in english! The dub was pretty good though ^w^

The high fantasy genre can become pretty stale or meaningless when the text is not really saying anything that you can resonate with, I have read and watched many a fantasy thing since the genre is obviously close to my heart but I find it a bit disappointing that other authors try to replicate it without adding their own spin on it, without understanding that it is about changing the status quo. Often times its a worse version and some other times its souless. Its not always like this of course, but I think the reason high fantasy can be boring to some is that people try to restrain it from evolving.

The music....the music is so very dear to my heart. The composer of the soundtrack of the trilogy made a conscious effort into making the music sound diagetic, something the people of middle earth would listen to, and I greatly appreciate this. There are an insane amount of poems and songs in the books, and music is the way middle earth was created, so it is very important. There are even a number of very antique instruments included in the score. The musicians did such an amazing job

The thing I love the most about it, is this intense hope that it gives. The world is inmensely fucked up and there are tons of things that you can't do much about but one of the best ways to challenge that suffocating misery is to love others, to help others, to let yourself be helped, and to overcome things together. To try to change what we have to for a better future.
